OUR FOUNDER
Shreya Krishnan, Founder and Principal Architect
Celebrated for her focus on sustainability and user-centric design, Shreya Krishnan is an Indian Green Building Council accredited professional and the founder of Shreya Krishnan Design Office. With an experience of more than 10 years, her portfolio is an array of projects ranging from residential and commercial to award-winning urban planning and design projects in India.
Shreya holds a formal degree in architecture, followed by a master's degree in Sustainable Urban Development and a dual degree in Plan II Honours, a liberal arts and sciences honours programme at the University of Texas at Austin. Her love for research and urban design defines her work philosophy of emphasising locale, contexts, and eco-conscious attributes in her design. Initially, what began as an individual hustle with farmhouses and interiors for family members now has become a recognised visionary in the world of architecture and urban design.
Prior to incepting SKDO, she worked at several reputed practices across India, most recently with Total Environment Building Solutions in Bangalore, where she drove the masterplanning for a 100-acre mixed-use development. She has also been associated with the Jana Urban Space Foundation in Bangalore, Rahul Mehrotra Associates in Mumbai, and Micro Homes Solutions in New Delhi.
Shreya’s works focus on sustainability in general and integrate a social purpose and environmental stewardship in particular. Her research and advocacy pursuits include affordable housing policy and low-cost building, community mapping and public art processes, and social cohesion in relation to public transport infrastructure and education. With experience of working directly with local government in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore on urban development and spatial planning, her idea of urban development offers a new spectrum in the realm. She has consulted with the UNDP and Asha Impact, a Mumbai-based impact fund, on affordable housing.
Her projects have gained the spotlight in peer-led design publications like Architectural Digest and MGS Magazine. The urban design projects she has been involved with have received accolades from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, have been featured in the Global Street Design Guide by C40 cities, and have been adopted as the national model for best practices by the Government of India under its Smart Cities programme.
